Dunk Island is a perfect blend of tourism and national parkland. Located just 4 km from the mainland, it is 160 km north of Townsville and 120 km south of Cairns. There is excellent access to the Great Barrier Reef and the island has many lovely swimming and snorkeling beaches and bays. An interesting track leads up to Mount Koo-tal-Oo Lookout (271 m) for breathtaking views. The 6 km long x 2 km wide island has 730 ha of national park and an interesting artist’s colony worth a visit. Access is by light plane from Cairns or launch from Mission Beach.
